Bridging the Gap Between Training and Career
The Bel Canto Opera Academy empowers emerging opera singers as they transition from academic study into professional life. We provide fully funded, high-level training grounded in the authentic Italian bel canto tradition—supporting the vocal, artistic, and practical development needed to build sustainable careers.
Founded in 2021 by Stefano Baldasseroni, Italian diction coach and teacher at the Metropolitan Opera, The Juilliard School, and the Curtis Institute, the foundation exists to fill a critical gap: the challenging period between graduation and consistent professional work.
Our Mission
We believe in elevating talent through opportunity. Our mission is to:
• Mentor and train emerging opera singers at a pivotal career stage
• Preserve and promote the Italian bel canto vocal tradition
• Foster a professional environment where young artists can grow, perform, and connect with audiences
What We Do
Each year, we present two cornerstone initiatives:
May 10th to May 24th, 2026 – Applications closed.
Bel Canto Opera Scenes Intensive
A two-week, tuition-free program offering daily coaching in voice, Italian diction, and acting. The course culminates in a fully staged public performance in Nashville. Our inaugural edition hosted 10 singers and faculty from top institutions including The Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute.
Piazza Italia
A lively, Italian-themed fundraising gala showcasing young opera singers in a professional performance setting. Artists are paid for their work and introduced to new audiences and supporters.
Our Impact
• Hosted the first Opera Scenes Intensive in 2025 with 10 hand-selected singers.
• Presented rising artists in both public concerts and high-profile fundraising events.
• Provided professional-level training with faculty from Juilliard, Curtis, and the Metropolitan Opera.
• Partnered with local institutions such as Belmont University and BMI.
Why It Matters?
For many singers, the journey doesn’t end at graduation—it gets harder. Professional auditions, limited access to coaching, and lack of income-producing opportunities can stall even the most promising voices.
We’re here to change that. By combining elite training with meaningful performance experience, we offer the structure, support, and visibility that young artists need to move forward with confidence.
